Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

The Six Strong Foundation is committed to making its website usable by people with disabilities, including veterans and military family members with disabilities. Our mission is to connect these families with the resources they need, and that means the site should work for everyone who comes to it.

Standards we follow

We hold this site to two standards: the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the widely used benchmark for making web content accessible. We follow Section 508 because part of our work is federally supported: the scholarship database was created by work supported by AmeriCorps, a federal agency, under Project #23VSFME001. We are not claiming a legal mandate here. We choose to hold the whole site to Section 508 given that federal-funding tie, so the standard we set for ourselves matches the standard for the work.

Conformance status

This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508. Partially conformant means some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard yet. We work continuously toward full conformance and do not claim we have reached it.

How we keep the site accessible

Accessibility is built into how we build and maintain this site, not a task we finish once. It is part of our standard practice:

  • We check every change to the site for accessibility issues before it goes live.
  • Every page has a visible focus indicator for people navigating by keyboard, and a link to skip straight to the main content.
  • Text and background colors are chosen to stay easy to read.
  • Animations respect your device's reduced-motion setting, so they do not play if you have asked your system to limit them.
  • Search filters, forms, and menus are built to work fully with a keyboard and to describe themselves correctly to screen readers.
  • We review the site by hand against WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508, track what we find, and fix it.

Feedback

If you run into an accessibility barrier on this site, please tell us. Email Kristen@SixStrongFoundation.com and describe what you found. We review reports and work to address them.

Formal complaints

If we are not able to reach a resolution with you, you may also contact the U.S. Department of Justice or another applicable federal agency.
